“Just another day in Paradise!”
This is one of Dr. Browning’s favorite “cheesy” quotes, as he likes to say. You will actually find it posted on the walls of our office. For Dr. Browning, it sums up his life as an orthodontist. He feels very fortunate and blessed to be a member of this profession.
Dr. Browning gives back to his profession as founder and chair of the Medical College of Virginia (MCV) Orthodontic Education and Research Foundation Endowment in 2001, Dr. Browning is proud to have initiated the much-needed fundraising effort for one of the premier orthodontic programs in the country. Orthodontic education and research drive us forward, shaping the future of our profession and impacting lives for generations to come.
Through his visionary leadership and commitment to excellence, Dr. Browning has established an endowment that serves as a beacon of support for the orthodontic department at MCV. The endowment’s primary goal is to attract and retain top orthodontic educators, ensuring the continued growth and excellence of their academic program.
Through the generous support of over 110 alumni pledging five full cases each, the MCV orthodontic endowment has flourished over the past two decades with $1.5 million collected and another $1 million pledged. Even more remarkable is the fact that Dr. Browning has maintained a portfolio balance of $1.4 million while giving over $800,000 to the orthodontic department for faculty retention. This incredible feat is a testament to Dr. Browning's unwavering commitment to supporting orthodontic education and research.
The impact of Dr. Browning's generosity extends far beyond the walls of MCV. By investing in our faculty members, Dr. Browning is helping to shape the future of orthodontic education and research, ensuring that our students receive the highest quality training and our patients benefit from the latest advancements in orthodontic care.
In addition to creating beautiful smiles, it is Dr. Browning’s goal to make everyone’s visit to our “paradise” the best part of their day. He wants our office to be a FUN experience! He is proud to offer his patient families a very unique office environment full of smiles and music welcoming every patient.
When Dr. Browning is not busy helping people with their smiles, you can find him on the golf course, working out, catching up on his reading, photographing wildlife, or under a pile of sawdust as a woodworking hobbyist. You can also find him serving coffee at his local church. Dr. Browning has been the voice of the Ashley High School Screaming Eagles as announcer for the football and basketball games.
The 1987 graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill (BA, economics) spent some time traveling and working in exotic places before returning to school to earn a dental degree from the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry in 1996. Two years later, he obtained his certificate from the school’s Department of Orthodontics. In 1999 he founded the Medical College of Virginia Orthodontic Education and Research Foundation Endowment, which helps attract and retain key faculty members from a pool of the nation’s top orthodontic educators.
Today, he maintains a practice in Wilmington. Locally, he supports a wide range of community programs, is active in the school system, and has served on the New Hanover County Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.
Dr. Browning and his wife Wendy moved to Wilmington in 1998 and have three children: Mac, Dean, and Anne Cathryn.
Dr. Browning has another cheesy saying: “… and don’t forget to smile!” That’s what he hopes to give you at every visit: something to smile about!
